Comments: I've been running in ASICS Gel Kayano for 10 years and was always reluctant to switch but now that I've been running in my Hokas I can say for certain I will never run in any other shoe brand. Hokas are light, with lots of cushion and support. It's like running on air. My pace and distance have improved considerably. No issues with plantar Fasciitis thus far.

Comments: Like walking on a cloud shoes are so comfortable and support is just perfect. Really love the snug fit one gets on their whole foot from these shoes. Their materials are ultra-light which really benefits the owner, whether they are running, jogging or just exercising. Grrrrrreat shoes

Comments: Excellent shoe with maximum Cushioning! I always buy from the Running warehouse because they always have the SIZES and PRODUCTS that nobody else has, even the manufacturers!
From: Tom. Kingwood, Texas February 9th, 2022
Comments: This shoe is so comfy on the foot even passing the 15-mile mark. Man, I can't tell you how comfortable this shoe is to run in. Fits like a glove and feels like running on clouds with good energy return for such a plush ride. I normally run 10-15 miles a day, 5-6 days a week. This shoe holds up well to this distance. Ran a 26.2 in a pair and it literally felt like I ran 5 miles. No hot spots, no heel lift, no foot swimming, laces hold well, etc.. Perfect.. I've run in a lot of different brands over my 35 years of running, HOKA is my go-to road warrior. Now HOKA, PLEASE don't change a thing with this shoe!! Thank you.

Comments: I've been wearing Cliftons since version 4. Always a good everyday runner -- short or long. Gets good mileage. Cushy but responsive. Wish just a touch more black rubber would show up on the bottoms...I know it's a weight thing. Overall the best long-wearing, long-distance, highly-cushioned shoe on the planet. You will probably wonder why you waited.

Comments: Customer service was fantastic. Our first order of Hoka Cliftons was lost with UPS. I called and they sent out a new pair and credited the expedited shipping.

Comments: I have been wedded to HOKA Clifton shoes now for >10 years and have run all races with these. The cushion offered for these shoes far exceeds anything I have experienced with Brooks, Saucony, or others. I used to experience occasional injuries, none since using HOKA Clifton. I found running warehouse purely by Google search and was glad I did. They have the best price and the shipping was excellent. I am a permanent loyal customer for replacements.

Comments: My second pair of Hoka's. The Hoka Clifton 8's are excellent. I walk 3 to 5 miles per day. My previous pair the Clifton 7's we're software than the 8's and probably better suited for running. The Clifton 8's are perfect for walking. Wide and comfortable toe box. Very comfortable. The shoes arrived in perfect condition and on time.

Comments: The HOKA Clifton 8 is a soft, comfortable, and supportive shoe. They are my 'go-to' shoe for everyday runs both on and off the pavement.
From: Sam . Yuma AZ January 26th 2022
Comments: I've run in the last two iterations of the Hoka Clifton and the Clifton 8 continues to improve on the fit and comfort of the shoe. I bought this shoe in Fiesta/Orange and Teal/Aquarelle. The first thing you notice is the fit (true to size, I'm a 10.5) - support around the heel of the shoe and a snug fit around the top of the shoe. The shoe is light, breathable, and has a plush feel when you run in it while still getting a good ground feel. I look forward to the 400-500 miles I'll put on these shoes this year!
From: Scott. Boston, MA January 25th, 2022
Comments: Bought Hokas for years with no issues but bought this exact shoe on Nov 21 and just a few days ago - Jan 2022, the tread pads on the bottom are delaminating from the shoe. This is now the second pair to do this....nervous about buying anymore Hokas..love to get an email saying this is being fixed.
From: Carl. Seal Beach, ca January 7th, 2022
Comments: Soft, but not Bondi too soft, new outsole lasts much longer, I am a supinator. Two pairs a month, now almost one pair a month, so my cost is almost half previous editions.
From: Harry. Texas January 7th, 2022
Comments: This is my first pair of Hoka shoes. I have always been curious to try Hokas out but have never taken the plunge. I have run a fair amount in Nikes and Saucony primarily. With the Clifton 8, I finally took my first dive into the Hoka shoes. My first impression of this shoe ~50 miles in, is that they are a great lightweight trainer. Yet, they do have the right touch of firmness that makes it so that you aren't overwhelmed in too soft of a cushioned shoe. While I am currently coming back from an injury and my overall mileage is a bit lower in total and consequently, each run is not my typical mileage, I can see that these will last me for easily 400-500 miles. I can see them being great daily/long-run shoes. Excited to have ventured out and have this shoe a part of my rotation.

Comments: Hoka is my go-to brand for hiking and walking shoes. Running Warehouse provided my Clifton 8's promptly and at a fair price. As promised, a pre-paid return label was included, in case a return was necessary. Good shoes, good store!
From: STEVE. St. Paul December 25th 2021
Comments: HOKA Clifton 8- it's a big upgrade for my daily 5 mile walking shoes. I originally ordered the regular width and found them to be a little narrow for me, so I easily returned it at no cost to Running Warehouse and requested the double E width, which was quickly delivered to me. Very satisfied with the service and the product.
From: Pete. Novato, CA December 23rd 2021
Comments: Well these are the best shoes that I've ever stood all day on concrete with, with one caveat. The style is tight across the top of my foot and for a few days it literally put sores sores on top of my feet. Bottom of feet, great! Top of feet, not so much.. I have learned to use them at work with the middle section very very loose, and then it works much better.
From: Ron. Kirkland WA December 23rd 2021
Comments: I am a 70+ happy runner, running the last 20 years with 40 full marathons, about 25 miles per week. Hoka Clifton 2 and 3 (bought 2 pairs for each) were my favorite marathon shoes for about 5 years, Asics and Brooks before that. But Clifton 4 was totally different shoes with little cushion and I stopped buying Hoka and went back to Brooks but I was not happy with Brooks. Meantime I brought back my old Clifton 3, which had still some life left, to qualify for 2022 Boston. Eventually, I decided on Clifton 8 for 2021 Boston based on many good reviews. Unfortunately, it turned out Clifton 8 was not like Clifton 2 or 3, not enough cushioning and energy return for the full marathon. The first impression of Clifton 8 was nice soft comfortable shoes but as I was training for the marathon I started noticing a few bad signs. First, the upper was very difficult to adjust to hold my foot firmly in the shoes causing a small movement of my foot to cause blisters on my little toe after a long run. Second, as some reviewers also mentioned, after about 80 miles a small hole appeared on the both heels, indicating again the foot movement in the shoes. Also, Clifton 8 has less cushion particularly under the forefoot and I can feel and kick the ground better than Clifton 2 or 3 which is good for shorter races. As a matter of fact I had a good 10k race before Boston. In summary, Clifton 8 is comfortable soft shoes for shorter distance races probably up to half marathon but not for full marathons. I am still searching for my next marathon shoes and have been reading and watching many running shoe reviews. For now, I bought Saucony Endorphin pro and Nike AlphaFly from Running Warehouse hoping to use one of them in 2022 Boston
From: Toshi. Essex, VT December 8th, 2021
Comments: This is the 5 series of HOKA Cliftons I've purchased, all 10.5 medium widths. I've been alternating each day with my Clifton 7s. The Clifton 8's are much larger so I'm using full sole inserts and they are still large and I'm coming out of my right shoe. I replaced the laces with round braced cords and tie my shoe as tight as possible, no help. I'm looking for another brand that is light and well-cushioned. Any suggestions?
From: Charles. Schug December 3rd, 2021
Comments: I like the 8 the best so far. Although they should just call the Clifton the "200" cause that is exactly how many miles I get out of them. No more, no less. At 200 the foam is gone forever. Very disappointing for a relatively light and efficient runer. This is a premium shoe. HOKA has planned obsolescence down to a science.

Comments: These shoes are heaven-sent for my husband whose experiencing a bout of plantar fasciitis. He said they're like walking on clouds! The fit is perfect & they look terrific but it's the comfort & relief they've provided that's priceless. Best shoes he's ever owned, period!

Comments: I have been running in the Clifton since Clifton 1. I have to say the Clifton 8 is my favorite iteration of all time. My first run, in them, was 9 miles and I went out too fast because the shoes felt so good. Heel locks in nicely. True to size. No hot spots. Very lightweight. The shoes are soft, but not spongey. The Clifton 7 was more spongey. I usually get close to 500 miles on my Clifton 7's and I'm hoping to get at least that with the 8's. I ordered the Dazzling Blue color and the shoes are more "dazzling blue" than is depicted in the Running Warehouse photo. But, I like the color. Very eye-catching.
From: Greg. Oxford, GA, USA November 19th, 2021
Comments: I run about 20 miles per week. The shoes are extremely comfortable. The toe box is slightly wide, which occasionally leads to my feet not feeling completely secure in the shoe, but by tightening the laces I find them quite nice for daily training
From: Anonymous. November 19th, 2021
Comments: Like the shoes but the colors are not what I expected. I wanted the black on black which sounds like totally black shoes. What I got was black with a charcoal color. I'm not sure who mistake that was but that is my only negative.
From: Terry. Fort Worth November 18th, 2021
Comments: Solid trainer! I'm usually a Solomon guy but decided to give these a try and love them. Totally different ride than what I'm used to. Very comfortable and lightweight. A little less responsive than my usual trainers, but worth it on longer distance days. Fit is spot-on

Comments: I run about 160-240 miles a month. I added the Clifton 8 into my rotation because I needed a softer shoe to help with some foot issues. The Clifton is a good ride for that. At first glance, it appears to be bulky but is surprisingly light. I'm very pleased

Comments: Hi all, This is the "Secretariat". I've had the pleasure of running in the Clifton 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and the Napili. I also ran through 3 pairs of the Rincon 1. The Clifton 8, 3, and Napali have been the best. The Napali still reigns king considering weight and comfort. Clifton 3 reigned king in the Clifton lineup until this Clifton 8 was produced. Clifton 8 is the best produced Clifton IMO. You can hammer through 300 to 400 miles with comfort and durability. Awesome job Hoka and I only order through my favorite online company "Running Warehouse". Best customer service and shipping in online business altogether in my experience. I love doing business here!

Comments: Had 4 pairs of the Clifton 7 and recently switched to the 8. While they were more cushiony, I personally did not like them. I got sore shins and feet for the first time in years. Also, the arch on the inside part of the foot is angled odd and would bother me on the longer runs. Returned them and bought another pair of the 7s.
From: Anonymous. Ca October 25th 2021
Comments: Brought the Clifton 8 due to good past experiences having used earlier model Cliftons. After using it now a few times it is clear it is considered an upgrade compared to already very good predecessors. Buy with confidence as the shoe is great if you like a more cushion feel. Great for your news and joints long-term if you do a lot of running. The full black color also looks great and can use the shoe for daily use too (if required..)!

Comments: What can I say these shoes are awesome feel great. Love the Black on Black and the collar. They have great cushion and the response is comfortable and is a pair that I wear daily to work all day. Since I am on my feet for 8 to 10 hours it helps a lot to have a pair that feels comfortable all day. I have gotten my co-works to wear them know and their response is they enjoy the way they feel especially that their feet are not tired like before. Thanks, Running Warehouse I really enjoy my shoes. Comments: Fantastic Shoe. Cushion is great for running or for walking or standing all day at work. This shoe is solid! Highly recommended.
From: KT. Houston, USA October 16th 2021
Comments: I really liked these initially. However, the cushion left when I swapped the insoles for my runpro medium support insoles. When I tried them with the factory insoles the arch of my right foot ended up on the inside edge of the sole of the shoe. They just didn't work for me.
From:Circleville October 14th 2021
Comments: I'd give the Clifton 8s a 6/10. They seem wider and sloppier than the 7s. Can't seem to ever get "locked-in". Still a decent shoe that I'll keep in the mix for the next few months though.

Comments: I have run in nothing but Clifton for the past 4 to 5 years. I do about 500 mi a year. 6-4-200, I go slow. This is my second pair of Clifton 8. I returned the first pair, which I bought somewhere else, because the inside back left heel started creating a hole. Like it started pilling up and then broke away. This pair, after 50 mi, is doing the exact same thing in the exact same location. I personally haven't changed anything myself. Same running socks, the same everything else. Otherwise, I love the shoes!
From: Mark. Ohio October 10th 2021
Comments: Overall, they're a good pair of shoes that are lightweight and agile. The biggest issue I had is that it actually has less cushion and "bounce" than the Hoka Clifton 7 which I really liked. I ended up returning it and getting the Bondi 7 instead.

Comments: Great Shoe! I have 2 Clifton 6's, size 9 2e wide. Have recently had a knee replacement and at 78 years of age find them extremely comfortable. I basically jog 14-15 pace daily usually which is ok per doc. Have had foot problems before surgery and these shoes are more comfortable than I could have hoped for. They are very forgiving on my feet and a great fit, true to size.
From: rich. East Greenwich October 4th 2021
Comments: Comfortable right out the box, fit is true to size. The first run was 5 miler and they did not disappoint. To me Hoka has achieved the perfect balance of cushioning with a responsive feel. My alternate pair of shoes is the Altra Torin 5 which compared to the Clifton 8's is cushioned but on the squishy side. The past two weekends I completed runs of 17 and 18 miles and the shoe is definitely my go-to for long runs. Comments: Comments: Comments: Comments: Comments: Comments: Comments: Comments:

I have been using Hoka road and trail shoes for 5-6 years, Clifton line is my fav for long runs, I jumped from series 5 to 8. The first day on the pair Clifton 8 was a 1/2 marathon, awesome! It has the right cushion, the upper is softer and lighter than the previous, the new outsole pattern looks and feels better while running from the previous version, so far they are great! From:Jose. July 15th, 2021
Comments: Overall impressions is that this is a great shoe. I loved how light it was and yet still had all that cushion and felt solid underfoot. Unfortunately I have a foot with arch issues and it was a little too neutral for me and left me with pain. I'm guessing it wouldn't be an issue for most folks, though it is a truly neutral shoe and not a lot of arch support. So far, great experience with Running Warehouse. I especially appreciate the easy returns since some of us have a real challenge finding the right shoe match.

Comments: I love these Hoka Cliftons I've worn them since the 4's , I suffer from back, knee, plantar fasciitis , and get charlie horses in my toes and calves. They have definitely helped. However, over the past year I've noticed they only last a couple months daily use. I'm not a runner, I wear them to work I work on concrete 10 hours a day. They just seem to break down a lot faster than they used to. One other thing I have narrow feet but my feet want to slide towards the outside of the shoe, I've noticed this on other people as well. I just had acl surgery I'm not blaming the shoe but it makes me want to look at another brand. I hate this because I do love the comfort they provide just wish they lasted longer for the price you have to pay.
From: Casey. February 24th 2022
Comments: The Clifton 8 is very comfortable and made for an easy transition from my Clifton 7's. The tongue has more padding but is still easy to slip on. The area around the Achilles is narrow and helps hold my heel down in the shoe. The shoe is stable and has the cushion that I expected from HOKA. I am very happy with the shoe as a marathon trainer.
From: Phillip. Pleasanton February 25th 2022
Comments: Something Is different on the Clifton 8 versus the previous models. I find my feet hurting a lot more and they just don't feel as a soft and plush as the previous models. Ugh. It's unfortunate because I ran the Clifton for years

Comments: These are my very first pair of HOKA's. I've run in Altra's and Mizuno's in the past. I have primarily used the Clifton 8 as a daily trainer. It is lightweight and feels stable overall. I wish it had a little more responsiveness between my foot and the road, but otherwise, it does the trick.

Comments: I've been a longtime Bondi user. Lately, as I've gotten a little bit faster, the Bondi's just felt a tad too soft. I decided to give the Cliftons a try. I am glad I did. They are amazing. They're a touch firmer and all of my runs just feel better. I still pull on the Bondi's when I'm really tired/worn out and have a long training run but the Cliftons are fantastic. When I'm fresh, the Cliftons are great for 15+ mile runs. They're great for everything and my new go-to shoe.

Comments: I just bought my first pair of Clifton. I used to wear ASICS, but when I tried HOKA, I cannot change to another band. I have been wearing HOKA for several years, since I tried the NAPALI and the Rincon2 and Rincon3, I wanted something more upgraded and I think I found it. Thanks Running Warehouse for your good customer service and also good prices.

Comments: I'm running in my second pair of Clifton 8. They are going in the trash after only 286 miles. No cushioning remaining and leg and foot injuries are developing. My first pair didn't wear out quite this fast. But, durability is definitely an issue with these shoes. HOKA keeps increasing the price, but they are making a cheaper shoe. I will be switching to other brands of neutral trainers. Terrible shoe. I do not recommend it.

FAQs
Should I size up or down in Hoka Clifton 8? ›
The sizing on this shoe runs long, so you may need to go down about half a size . For example, if you normally wear a 7.5 in a Saucony or Brooks, you can easily be in a 7 or potentially a 6.5 in the Hoka Clifton 8.
Are Hoka Clifton 8 shoes good for walking? ›Hoka shoes consistently make the lists of “best running shoes for wide feet,” and the Clifton 8 is about as people-pleasing as a running shoe comes. The roomier nature of these cushioned shoe makes them ideal for walks and recovery runs, as opposed to the more snug fit of speed-oriented shoes.
Should I size down in Hoka Clifton? ›Nathan: The HOKA Clifton 9 fits true to size with an overall fit consistent with most HOKA models. By this I mean overall more narrow in the forefoot and maintaining that narrow-leaning fit back to the heel.
What year did the Hoka Clifton 8 come out? ›The Hoka One One Clifton has developed the most loyal of fan bases despite only being released in 2014. If you're a fan, you know.
Should I go half a size up for HOKA? ›Are HOKA ONE ONE shoes true to size? “I'd say they're on the snug side of true to size. If there are half sizes available I recommend to go half up." Crafted from lightweight materials with a wider midsole, certain styles run narrow through the toe-box, therefore 'wide' size options are available.
Do Clifton 8 run small? ›As our experts note, you should have about a half-inch of room in the toe of your shoe. I'm typically a size 7 or 7.5, so I tested the Clifton 8 in a 7.5, and they fit just as expected.
Are Clifton 8 good for plantar fasciitis? ›The Clifton 8 is GREAT for Plantar fasciitis because it has an Achilles heel tab that supports the foot. Clifton 8 is a lighter, more responsive midsole that delivers even more comfort and cushion. The extended heel crash pad provides added shock absorption and makes for a smooth feeling step.
Why do podiatrists recommend Hoka? ›Are Hokas good for your feet? They're not just great for workouts. Dr. Jacqueline Sutera, a New York City-based podiatrist says that they provide comfort, support and shock absorption, which makes them a good choice for frequent walkers or anyone whose job requires them to stand for the majority of the day.
Which Hoka has the best arch support? ›Best Hoka Shoes for Walking with High Arches
We recommend the Hoka Clifton 9 Shoes for Walking if you have High Arches due to their neutral sole and cushioned soles. People with high arches tend to have a two-pronged gait cycle rather than a rolling of the foot.
Nike running shoes are often reported to run small. HOKA shoes run true to size from my testing. Some models are definitely a little more narrow than others, as with most brands. In fact, they have been working on increasing the toebox in newer models.
Why are Hoka shoes so big? ›
Why are these running shoes so chunky? HOKA has built its shoes to withstand heavy pounding and volume. While they have chunky cushioning that extends the length of the shoe, it's not just focused in the heel—which means that mid-foot and fore-foot strikers will equally benefit from a HOKA shoe.
How do Hokas fit compared to Brooks? ›One of the biggest differences you'll notice with Brooks vs HOKA running shoes is how the shoes fit and are sized. Brooks recommends sizing up a half size from your street shoe, while HOKA running shoes are said to fit true to size. In terms of fit, Brooks running shoes have a wider toe box.
Are Hokas good for your knees? ›While they're certainly a splurge, Hoka's podiatrist-approved design comes with loads of knee- and foot-supportive benefits that are particularly ideal for those recovering from injury or surgery, while also being a great choice for those who work out everyday.
Are Hoka 7 or 8 better? ›Some of the major changes in the Hoka Bondi 8 compared to the Bondi 7 are to the midsole, width, and durability: More cushioned midsole that is softer and more responsive than the Hoka Bondi 7. Increased durability due to more rubber outsole coverage.
Why is Hoka so popular now? ›“It's a comfort thing but also a form thing. People are wearing them because it's stylish and trendy.” It's true that, as unlikely as it may have seemed a few years ago, Hokas are stylish and trendy.
Do Hokas wear out faster? ›They were not worn every day, maybe every other day for an hour or two. They should not wear out this quickly, but in my experience, all Hokas do wear out this quickly. The sole material also compresses pretty fast, making them much less cushy in just a few months.
How do Hokas fit compared to New Balance? ›Therefore, even if you don't have a traditionally “wide“ foot, it can be a good idea to choose a HOKA model that comes in a wide-width option, such as the Bondi models, because the shoes do run narrow. In contrast, New Balance running shoes tend to be slightly wider overall, even for standard-width shoes.
How many miles to break in Hoka shoes? ›It's best to not forcefully speed up how long it takes to break in a new pair of running shoes; going too many miles too quickly may cause injury. Instead, wear the shoes around your house, then on a treadmill, then for a light 2-5 mile jog outside. It should only take 5-10 miles to break in a pair of shoes.
Is Hoka Clifton 8 a lightweight? ›The Clifton weighs 8.9 ounces (252 grams) for a US 9, so it's lightweight even by modern standards. It's far easier to run higher-paced workouts in lighter shoes, and this shoe is a good example.
